22 Private Prison Procurement, Department of Corrections Performance Audit - November One of the main advantages to using private prison companies to house state inmates is that the private sector, rather than the State, finances the design and construction of the prisons.
As previously discussed, these costs can be substantial. The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) currently has contracts with two private prison companies, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) and the GEO Corporation.
